The book of Railway Safety is written with the aim of enchancing understanding, awareness, and the implementation of safety practices within Indonesia's railway transportation system. It is intended for regulators, operators, academics, researchers, and the general public. This book comprehensively explores various aspects of railway safety, including fundamental principles such as risk prevention, risk management, system reliability, and the importance of implementing the Railway Safety Management System (SMKP) by all railway operators in Indonesia.

 

An analitics of railway accident data from 2018 to 2023 reveals that the majority of incidents were caused by inadequate infrastructure and rolling stock conditions, although a downward trend in accident frequency has been observed over the years. The book highlights the role of modern technology--such as automatic signalling systems, Automatic Train Protection (ATP), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI)--as critical tools for enhancing safety.

 

Furthermore, the book emphasizes the crucial role of competent human resources in the railway sector, regular inspection and maintenance of infrastructure and rolling stock, and systematic risk management as key elements in ensuring safe and reliable railway operations. It also underscores the significance of fostering a safety culture and inter-institutional collaboration involving all stakeholders. Ultimately, safety is positioned as the foundational pillar for the development of a sustainable and dependable national railway system.
